Week 6: Smiling

First real social smiles this week. Cute pictures of Sophia in her new dress from Grandma and an outfit from Lauren.

Sophia spent some time in her crib playing this week. She is still co-sleeping but we will be transitioning to the crib around 2 months.

Here is a picture of Sophia in her swing, given to her from her dear friend Udette. She loves staring at herself in the mirror - what a ham!

Sophia rolled over from her tummy on to her back by pushing off on her hands.

This weekend we went to Mamaroneck to visit our Godson Paul and give him his Easter basket. We went out to eat for the first time with Sophia to Applebee's. While she slept all through Church, she soon got hungry and I gave her a bottle in the restaurant. This may have been the last time she really took a bottle. We didn't know that she needs to "practice" every day to really understand how to eat from the bottle.

Week 5: First tub bath

Sophia loves her swing and looks so peaceful. She is wearing her new outfit from Grandma.

Tummy time isn't so bad when we have colorful toys to look at. Sophia is actually enjoying time on her tummy and getting burped by Daddy.

Sophia is snug as a bug in a rug in her sling. This is the view that I have of her from the sling. So precious!

Sophia loves her bunny wrist rattle from Shawn!

We gave Sophia her first tub bath on Saturday and she absolutely hated it and screamed the entire time..so we kept it to about 30 seconds. Hopefully she learns to like it later on.

Karen, Emily and Nicholle came to visit on Saturday. Karen made us all a delicious healthy Salmon dinner. Thanks for all the gifts and great company!

Some more "adorable" pictures of Sophia this week. She is starting to be interested in toys that hang above her and loves putting her hands in her mouth. Is she teething already?

Week 4: Baby's First Easter

Happy St. Patrick's Day! Sophia celebrated with a little milk and a lot of love. She has that drunken sailor look here.

Daddy's Lucky Charm likes to box and bop Daddy on the chin.

Cute pictures of Sophia this week. She looks like a munchie-chi in this first picture.

On Friday, Shawn and Kerrie came to visit- bringing lunch and more gifts, thanks! Shawn is my friend from high school and Kerrie was my freshman roomate in college. Shawn is pregnant and due in June with a boy - yeah another potential boyfriend for Sophia is on the way!

I finally got my hair done Saturday and I feel like a real person again, well sort of. I feel like a mom now, so that is a new identity. I am loving every minute of it!

Saturday afternoon we went to visit Great Grandma Mary (Nonnie) at Aunt Mary Ann and Regina's. Sophia slept the entire time. She must have really needed a nap if Nonnie trying to eat her didn't wake her up!

Happy Easter! We brought Sophia to church today for the first time. We spent a good portion of the time nursing in the nursery, but it was good to see our friends, Kathy and Brian.

Sophia received lots of gifts for Easter. It was too much fun and she needed to snooze. Here she is with Grandma. Chuck and Aunt Krissy were also over for dinner.

"Baby's First Easter" outfit did not fit yet so we just held it up to her. She did look very cute in her purple dress from Ann Marie.

I ordered a new sling called Nojo, which is much better than the Peanut shell which I have yet to figure out how to use. She really likes snuggling up in there and being cozy.

Week 3: Dr. appt, family visit and first road trip

Sophia had her 2 week check-up Monday and is right on track in terms of weight gain. Nursing is going well and I have started to venture out of the house a bit, but not too far because she is still hungry every 1 1/2 hrs. or so.

Baby's first road trip was to visit Great Grandma Nell in Goshen, NY.
We didn't stay long, but Sophia had time to eat, wet 2 diapers and celebrate her Great Grandma's birthday with a cake.

Pictures at Great Grandma Nell's house.

On Sunday, we got a visit from my Aunt Julie, Uncle Michael, and cousin Kelsi who was a natural with the baby. Thanks for the gifts and the food!

Daddy has learned to wear his workshop ear muffs when Sophia has her crying fits in the evening (just in time for when Nick gets home from work).

Week 2: Family & friends visit

My mom and Dad were here this week visiting and helping out. Mom cooked my all time favorite meals - pork chops and scalloped potatoes, beef stew and cream chicken. My Dad helped put together the stroller, which was very complicated with the minimal directions we were given. I am so thankful for their help! Sophia enjoyed spending time with her Grandma and Grandpa. We joked that Sophia looks like a mini version of her Grandpa (at least she did this week).

Sophia "slept like a baby" this week. I was freaking out because I had no idea what to expect being a new mom. I was worried she was sleeping too much one day and then not enough the next day. Fortunately, nursing is started to go really well now and we are not giving her any supplemental formula any more. Thanks to a lactation consultant, I started to realize that this is all normal and it takes time for both of us to learn how to nurse.

Nick's former coworker and friend Lisa came to visit this week. I started to think Sophia was colicky because she was crying in the evening. Lisa was reassuring to me and said her crying was just normal baby cries.

My friend Kerrie came to visit this week as well. I was so happy to see her. She is a new mom as well - her son Ryan was born in July so she has seven months of experience behind her. It was so helpful for me to hear that other people experienced what I was going through with worrying about the baby and learning all that is involved in taking care of her. I am so grateful for her levelheadedness and making me feel normal again. Also for her delicious blueberry muffins!

Some pictures of me begin to surface this week as I start to feel like a normal person again. I had been so exhausted with the delivery last week but now I am starting to catch up on sleep and my hormones are regulating (finally!). Maybe I am not a psycho after all, but a mom!?!

Our friends John and Johanna are going to be Sophia's Godparents. They came up to visit with our Godson Paul - here he is with his Godsister! Thanks for bringing us lunch and good company.
