Week 49: Tricks

Sophia has learned how to get us to smile and laugh...All she has to do is "So big" and clap on demand.

Sophia is nice enough to give Molly dolly a ride on her zebra rocker.

Yeah, Daddy is home and giving me kisses!

Spaghetti squash is a favorite in this house. She likes to slurp it up.

Another fun thing Sophia likes to do is stick out her tongue at us. At first we thought it was because she is thirsty, but now I am sure she does it to make us laugh.

Read to me! This is what I imagine she is saying. We got a new book called "Hand Hand Fingers Thumb" and we had a lot of fun this week reading it... over and over..

We went to visit Shawn, Andy and baby Alex (who is now 7 1/2 months) on Saturday. On the way there, Sophia woke up on cue as soon as we hit traffic. She is really impatient in the car. Luckily, these days I can give her a toy phone and she will be distracted.

Kerrie, Justin and Ryan (who is now 18 months) were also visiting.

Although Sophia looks grumpy in this pic, she was actually happy happy most of the time. I am just now realizing how coordinated Nick and I were. Thanks for the new old jeans Jodi.

Sophia had fun playing with the baseball game. Maybe she will be in to sports (if so, it didn't come from us). It is so much fun to see Ryan walking all over the place and talking - we have so much to look forward to this upcoming year. Thanks for lending us your old toys Ryan!

Sophie and Alex took some time for pictures before it was time for him to nap. I remember when Sophia used to have good posture like Alex. Now she doesn't want to sit still and can't wait to jump right off that couch! Luckily, Daddy was right there to keep her entertained.

After a 3 hour nap in the morning (perhaps making up for the hour she was up during the night), Sophia played the rest of the day on Sunday with her new borrowed toys from Ryan. She was very serious about this zebra!

Sophia is cruising pretty fast around the house. I turn for a second and she is across the room. If you listen closely it sounds like she is saying Mommy. She started with Mah-mah this week, but it usually comes out when she is whining for food. We watched Sesame Street today for the first time, but she seemed to prefer to cruise around rather than sit and watch it.

Sophia couldn't stay up to watch the superbowl, but she did have fun seeing the opening ceremony and really liked hearing Jennifer Hudson sing... Go Steelers!

Week 48: Happy 11 months!

Sophia was all better this week from her sickness. I was still under the weather, but managed to get out to do some grocery shopping. Sophia loves sitting in the shopping cart and looking at all the people and food. Yes, I do bring my camera everywhere..

It is inauguration day and we listened/ watched Obama's speech over lunch. What a historical event this is for our country.

Sophia is now really understanding how to play with toys. It may sound silly but there was a big change in her this week where she knows to hit the worm with the hammer and put the balls in the tunnel or put the salt and pepper shakers on their shelf in her pretend kitchen or look over at me when she knows she is about to touch something she shouldn't like the computer. Our little girl is really growing up.

On Wed. I was finally all better and I wanted to get out of the house finally. So we went to the gym and then to Ali's for a little sleigh riding. Sophia and Layla doubled up in her sled and Rylee got to relax in hers. After her initial fears subsided, Sophia really enjoyed herself and the mommies had a ball.
Ok, riding around in the sled is one thing, but she didn't want to sit around in the cold and make snow angels. She was upset because in their snowsuits they can't move at all!

Sophia warmed up inside and then enjoyed her playdate with her friends much more when she could crawl all over the place.

On Thurs. we went to music class. Since we haven't been there in about a month due to snow or illness, we were very happy to see everyone.

The babies were all mesmerized by a strange silver instrument.

Sophia can now get all around the kitchen holding on to the sides of the cabinents.

Grandma came to visit on Thurs and I got a much needed break having been home for 10 days. Sophia had so much fun she didn't want to nap.

Jodi and the twins hosted playgroup on Friday and we had a great time tearing up the house.

Will and Sophia shared a special moment over lunch.

After a napless afternoon, Sophia managed to squeeze in a short nap on the way home to hold her over until bedtime. She was all smiles when Daddy got home.

Sophia received two birthday gifts in the mail this week. Her new dress from Johanna is really soft and pretty and she loves this shopping cart from aunt Julie. It is a little big for her yet, but in no time she will be putting all her groceries in it. Thank you!

Say cheese! Sophia got her first taste of cheese on her birthday as a "treat." I had figured she would love it since I have been waiting all these months afraid of what dairy would do to her. Well as you can tell from her face, she didn't really like it at all.
At 11 months, Sophia is:
-SO big
-clapping when I say "yeah"
-walking with assistance
-standing alone for seconds at a time
-crawling for real
-eating mostly table foods (like cheese) with some chunky purees
-showing her 8th tooth
-putting things away rather than just taking them out
-having real conversations that make perfect sense to only her
-closing in on her 1st birthday. I can't believe how the time flies when you are having so much fun.
Snacking on more cheese..this time she liked it

Who needs a walker, when she can take this stool and push it around the house!

Week 47: Homebound

Sophia was dressed to impress on her way to Great Grandma Nell's house.

Sophia's Great uncle Chris and aunt Francis were in town and we all played the day away.

Sophia didn't have her lion walker with her, but Great Grandma's is just as good (maybe better because there are lots of places to hold on to. Here she is walking round and round...

Unfortunately, Sophia woke up the next day with a cold. The cough was bad enough that we went to the doctor. She had another ear infection and that night a fever of 104.5. Of course, I freaked out but the doctor assured me that babies her age can have fevers up to 106 before they get worried. So we cancelled plans for a few days to recuperate.

Sick, but still able to play on her new horsey!

Sophia uses her walker everywhere forwards and backwards.

Sick but still being cute... and she even decided to start crawling on her knees where she has been doing the army crawl this whole time or walking.

So that was our whole week at home. We ended up missing the rescheduled holiday party which we were totally bummed about. Lucky for us, Melissa was kind enough to drop off Sophia's gift from the party. This was definitely the highlight of our day (with the exception of Daddy being home on a Saturday of course).

Thanks Melissa, Eric and Will. It was so nice of you to stop by with some cheerful toys. We played all afternoon with the new toys and ...

played a little with Daddy's nose too!

On Sunday, our friends Jim, Jackie and Danielle came by for a lobster & football night. Sophia had a ball and so did we! I thought we were all better, but I was still a bit sick and ended up with a fever that night after they left. Tis the season I guess, but I can't wait for the spring.
